SEMIYA BALLS

One day, we were expecting guests and my grandmother decided to make her trademark dahi semiya (savoury version of semiya payasam!). As we were busy with other preparations, the semiya got overcooked. With not enough time and semiya left for another round, we decided to ahead and reinvent something new with the overcooked semiya. It turned out to be the dish of the day and the guests started asking us about the recipe and ingredients. So here is how we turned a disaster turned into deliciousness

 

Ingredients:

1 cup semiya / vermicelli – overcooked

Pepper powder

Chaat masala

Sesame seeds

Coriander leaves – for garnish

 

Method:

  • Add salt and pepper to the overcooked semiya and mix till forms a thick paste

  • Mould the paste into tiny balls and roll in chaat masala powder  such that it sticks evenly on all sides

  • Repeat the same process for sesame seeds

  • Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a non-stick pan and saute the balls till golden brown

  • Garnish with coriander leaves or mint

 

*Tip*

Powdered bread crumbs can also be used to give some extra texture
