

BANANA AVADA

Pongal or Sankranthi is that time of the year which calls for sumptuous traditional cooking. Garelu or medu vada is one dish which makes its presence in every home celebrating pongal. From the savoury dahi vadas to the sweet donuts dipping in chocolate sauce - people have experimented with the ingredients and have made their own version of the vadas. So I have decided to give the classic vadas a little twist of my own. Check out to know more...
Ingredients:
3 Raw bananas – boiled
2 onions – finely chopped
1 cup besan (gram flour)
Coriander leaves
Pepper
Dhaniya powder
Yoghurt
Turmeric powder
Mustard seeds
Jeera
Method:

Mash the raw bananas into a fine paste and add onions, salt, pepper, dhaniya powder

Keep adding besan powder until the mixture becomes stiff

Take a small amount of batter onto a plastic sheet and mould it in the form of a vada i.e a flat cylinder with a hole in the middle

Heat oil in a kadai on a high flame and deep fry them till golden brown

Set the vadas aside till cool

For the dahi, beat the yoghurt until it forms a smooth and creamy consistency and add salt and turmeric powder

Add the vadas to the dahi and temper it with mustard seeds and jeera
*Tip*
A hint of tomato slices and coriander to the dahi adds to the look and flavour of the dish
